The Squidder was first introduced by Penn in 1938. They are still available today
as "new old stock" in some tackle shops, but Penn no longer makes them. The Squidder features "one
screw take apart" and is easily disassembled with no tools for spool changes or maintenance. This real
is still popular today with surf fishermen.
It's easy to figure out what the Squidder is so popular the first time you pick one
up. The reel is just the right size - not too big around, wide enough to hold plenty of line, feels good
on a rod.
The last picture is from Penn Catalog Number 22, which is
thought to be from around 1960.
