Amelia Island Fishing Reports

Date: Saturday, December 10, 2005 - Fort Clinch Pier
Report By: Amelia-Island-Fishing.Com Staff

Some reports that a few redfish have been caught this week (other than the one I almost caught yesterday). Main catch is now trout, with the majority of them being caught across the jetty from the pier. Sheepshead have slowed down, only a few around, and the small bluefish are spotty too; today a lot of small ones on the other side of the jetty, but none on the pier side.

Fort Clinch Pier - Sheepshead have been spotty - on one day, off the next. Lots of Sheepshead were caught yesterday, but none caught today, and it's been that way all week. Maybe the drastic weather changes have them confused. Blues were gone today, not one in sight anywhere, but they've been replaced by Whiting and trout. Trout up to 20" were being caught on the pier today, mostly by people who were casting over the south jetty and fishing on the other side. Some nice sized Whiting on both sides today too.

Nassau Sound Bridge - Good catches of Bluefish, Whiting, and trout are being reported by the bait shop at the bridge.

Fort Clinch Pier - Even with the NE wind and the rough water, the small blues are biting great at the pier. I also saw a few trout that were caught today, and some really nice sheepshead, up to 5 lbs. Water is rough but very clear at high tide, which is about when to expect the action. Everybody on the pier was catching fish today. Dress warm; it's chilly out there in the wind.

A bad day of fishing is much better than a good day of cutting the grass.
