Amelia Island Fishing Spots

George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier

The old bridge over Nassau Sound (south end of Amelia Island) has been converted to a fishing pier after the construction of the new parallel bridge was completed. Parking is on the ocean side of the road, just north of the bridge, and the fee is $1.00 per person per day. If you have a yearly pass for Florida Parks, just write your pass number on the envelope at the entrance to the parking lot. (satellite image)

The pier is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is a good spot to catch flounder, whiting, and trout. The Nassau Sound Bait and Tackle shop, (904) 277-9772, is located on the north end (Amelia Island side) of the fishing pier.

The pier is pedestrian only, but you can park in front of the tackle shop for a few minutes to unload your cart and gear. At times the bridge is crowded, but since it's a mile long there's always room for a few more fisherman. It's also much safer for fishing now than it was back in the days when it carried all the vehicle traffic across the sound.

A bad day of fishing is much better than a good day of cutting the grass.
